Coloring Pages - Creative Arts for Children and Adults

Everyone's An Artist - Creative Coloring for Kids and Adults

Coloring pages are a universal arts and crafts activity for children of all ages. From the time children can grasp a crayon, coloring pages provide a "canvas" for creative play and artistic expression. There's another, almost secret group of coloring page  fans - adults and older kids who also enjoy coloring. In fact, adult coloring is a very popular creative pasttime.

Explore the world of coloring pages for children and adults and you'll find many unique pictures, posters and crafts for everyone to color. You can also find creative art projects to make with coloring pages.

Seniors and folks in therapy enjoy coloring activities as much as children. Coloring books and printable coloring sheets abound with complex coloring designs that appeal to adults and older kids:  mandalas, fine art drawings, geometric designs and detailed pictures from history, landscapes, pop culture and nostalgic themes.

Coloring pages are a wonderful design resource for crafters. The simple lines of basic coloring pages adapt well to embroidery, pieced paper and stained glass art. Coloring pages are also an excellent resource for creating your own stencils or fabric appliques. Some quilters use line art from coloring pages to create unique quilt blocks or stitchery patterns. You can even make your own tee shirt iron ons from coloring pages.

If you have a tin filled with older crayons, nibs and bits of broken crayons, you can recycle them into chunky crayons just right for young coloring fans. Make some "crayon nibbles" by melting the bits in a muffin tin then cooling. Learn how to recycle broken crayons.

Coloring Tools

Crayons are the number 1 choice for coloring tools.

Crayola has been manufacturing non-toxic crayons for more than 100 years. Coloring fans can visit the Crayola factory in Easton, Pennsylvania for an up-close look at how America's favorite coloring tools are made.

Colored pencils and markers are also popular coloring tools. Many adults and older children prefer colored pencils for their coloring page art projects.

  • Letters of the Alphabet coloring pages appeal to all ages. You can find ornate monograms to use as artwork and posters or for non-coloring crafts or you can go with simpler designs for children to color. I like to use alphabet letters in line art form to design patterns for other crafts.

For relaxation with markers and colored pencils, my favorite alphabet coloring pages are replicas from vintage books and manuscripts.

Alphabet Coloring has many resources for adult coloring and coloring for kids of all ages and levels; it's also got listings to printable coloring pages featuring every letter of the alphabet on its own or as a complete letter set.
